Heads or Tails - September 11

Barb at Skittle's Place has started a weekly meme. Every Tuesday, she calls Heads or Tails, and we get to play along. Today, it's Tails.

September 11: TAILS - Your reflections or memories of the 9-11 terror attack.

It's hard to believe that it has been 6 years since the 9-11 terror attack. I remember it was a day like most other days. The kids had gone to school, and I was having my coffee and breakfast, perhaps paying some bills, and figuring out what all I was going to do that day. Like most mornings, I was watching Good Morning America. They broke into the regular programming to tell us that something had happened at the World Trade Center, but no one was quite sure what. As they were talking about it, with a camera trained on the building and the smoke coming from it, the 2nd plane came out of nowhere and crashed into the other tower.

About this time, I was talking to my husband on the phone - to be sure they had heard what was going on at his work. After that, I was glued to the tv, waiting to see what would happen and praying that those people would make it out safely. Never having been to New York, I did not realize until later the size of those towers and the numbers of people affected. When I saw that 2nd plane crash into that second tower, I thought it must be a small plane. I had no idea that it could possibly be a full-size commercial airplane. I watched until the towers collapsed, and then watched it happen again and again - feeling completely numb and in complete disbelief. How could something like this happen? How could someone do something like this? Questions that still don't have satisfactory answers - even after 6 years.

  1. We stopped everything that we were doing and stayed glued to the tv, too. We were shocked that such a thing could happen...

  3. Thank you for sharing your memories. I watched the video and saw many scenes I hadn't seen before, like the place that was giving away drinks to anyone who came in. It also reminded me of the loss to rescue personnel.

  6. I still can't believe that it actually happened. It seems like a bad dream. That video always makes me cry.

  7. I remember now: how I had to watch over and over in order to believe it happened and yet I still could not understand. I think that it is obviously why the news channels continued to replay things; just because nobody could "get it" because it was too large an event.
