Shop the Alzheimer's Foundation eStore

Those of you looking for a special holiday gift might be interested in, not only giving something special to your loved one, but also contributing to a good cause. The Alzheimer's Foundation of America offers an exclusive collection of high quality jewelry that recognizes the greatest act of love - Caregiving. All proceeds support the programs and services of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and its member organizations.

Besides the jewelry, the Alzheimer's Foundation of America offers a 4-part DVD training system for family members and professionals caring for a person with Alzheimer's or dementia in a home setting. While finding a cure for Alzheimer's is important, providing quality care for those who suffer from the disease must not be forgotten. Like it says on the AFA website, their philosophy is that "individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses have the right to maintain their dignity, and that knowledge and support will ease the burden of this heartbreaking brain disorder on individuals with the disease and their families."

Some of the services provided by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America are:
  • A toll free hotline that provides counseling by licensed social workers, information on Alzheimer's, and help in finding local resources.
  • The AFA website, which gives information about Alzheimer's and related diseases, caregiving strategies, and daily news on Alzheimer's disease, among other things. It's a great resource for those who love someone with Alzheimer's.
  • Educational publications, including a free quarterly magazine for caregivers of those with Alzheimer's and related diseases.
  • Care Connection - a weekly teleconference designed for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's and related disease. These weekly telephone sessions offer support, inspiration, and connection with other caregivers.
The Alzheimer's Foundation of America also sponsors two annual events, both held in November - National Memory Screening Day, November 13, 2007 this year, and National Commemorative Candle Lighting, November 8, 2007.

The mission of the AFA is:
"To provide optimal care and services to individuals confronting dementia, and to their caregivers and families—through member organizations dedicated to improving quality of life."
So, while you're buying holiday gifts and donating to your favorite charities, please consider either making a donation to AFA or shopping for a gift in the eStore. Help support the mission.
