No School Again Today

Cory came downstairs last night and said there was no school today. His friend heard it on the news, so he looked it up on the Internet. Sure enough, they decided at about 8pm last night that there would be no school today. Shortly after that, Jeffrey and I went out to shovel the driveway again, since he had to get up extra early and go to DePere today. The snow had stopped. The wind had died down. The storm was over. So why did they cancel school? It makes no sense. There are a few other schools closed today, and several that had a 2 hour delay. I can understand the delay in order to give the plows time to clear the roads, if they didn't do it overnight. But why does school need to be closed?

Having my kids home from school two days in a row could make me start looking for hotels Las Vegas just to get away, except there really hasn't been too much fighting, and it was convenient having someone else around to help shovel. Besides, even the airport was closed yesterday, so I couldn't get out of town anyway.

The kids will pay for these snow days in the end, because they always have to made up somewhere - usually at the end of the school year. I'm sure that when I was in school we had a certain number of snow days built into the school calendar. Winter = Snow. It's a given. How can they not plan for snow days?
