I went searching in my archives to find a critter to post this week. I found these from one of our visits to Old World Wisconsin. We watched this man and woman yoke these two oxen and then use them to move some logs.
This one did not want anything to do with it. I guess he was plenty happy where he was before, lying around in the field, taking it easy.
Finally, they got the two of them yoked together.
and put them to work.
The people had to do plenty of work themselves, getting the log onto the sled so the oxen could pull it.
Eventually, they got that log moved
and took a break
They probably moved some more logs, but we figured we had spent enough time with them, so we moved on to see what other interesting things we could find.

ReplyDeleteThat's cool!
ReplyDeleteAnna: Those are some mighty fine Oxen, nice photos.
ReplyDeletewhat an interesting post for sure and now i am tired, that had to be a lot of work, were these Amish folks?
ReplyDeleteNot your everday critter
ReplyDeletelilli & nevada - it did look tiring, didn't it? No, they're not Amish. It's at a place near here called Old World Wisconsin. It's a really neat places with old buildings from different time periods and national origins from around the state. The people are the interpreters who dress and act like people from the time period they represent.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, Those Oxen are beautiful animals although it looked like more work for the people having to "hitch them up" than it did for the oxen. I'm glad to live in a bit more modern world.
ReplyDeletewow, that was a piece out of history, i think! nice photos!
ReplyDeletewonderful series shot
ReplyDeleteMine CC post in HERE. Hope you have time to visit. Thanks.
I always like to see those old historic places and imagine how people lived and worked in those times. Great collection of photos!
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to do that on my farm!
ReplyDeleteWe saw that being done once when we went to a living history day. Very interesting, but so much work! I can't imagine farmers of today doing that.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and good work that the oxen put into it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of work! I am thinking Hooray for John Deere right now ;0)
ReplyDeleteMarvelous "big" critters ! Looks so "farmlife" !
ReplyDeleteLooks like some hard work for everyone involved ;-)
