Update on my Uninvited Guest

I'm crossing my fingers (and my toes) hoping that I got the irritating little virus, worm, Trojan, whatever off of my computer. My brother suggested I try Malwarebytes. I figured I'd try scanning with Norton first, so left the computer scanning overnight. It didn't work. I think once the scan found the bad file, it stopped or something, because it was just sitting there when I got up this morning.

So, I went ahead and downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes, and after some messing around and frustration, I'm hopeful that I took care of it. If you want the details, you can go here.

Jeffrey has been having even more problems with his computer the last couple weeks, so we are going to have to try this on his computer, and Beth's too. Even if you don't have a problem yet, you might want to go ahead and get this program, because once you get one of these bad boys on your computer, they don't like you to download or install a program that might stop them. Jeffrey has repeatedly tried installing some other programs, and his attempts have been blocked every time. This seemed like a quick download and install that will hopefully get through, but if you've already got it on your computer, you won't have to worry about that.

You know, I'd much rather blog about giveaways...

  1. Is this a good spyware/adware virus blocking program? I don't like Norton. We had that in the past.

  2. I love malwarebytes : ) It doesn't block it, but it does remove the stuff.

Superantispyware is also a great free spyware remover.

Using the both of them, along with switching to firefox for my browser, has kept my computer nice and clean : )

  5. I feel I should chime in, though I see a lot of advice has already been given ^.^
I look through 100+ blogs in a day. One day, IE windows started popping up, and soon my computer would not run for more than a minute or two without shutting down. Sure enough, Trojans and backdoor worms had found their way into anything that was connected to the network (and at the time I had a few folders on the network as well).
I've used many anti-virus programs, and I've found that Malwarebytes and AVG (free edition) work the best. To get to the root of the problem, you'll have to disconnect the computer from any internet source, and boot up in safe mode. Once it boots, run Malwarebytes or what-have-you and it will be able to pick up and eradicate the worms/trojans/backdoor nonsense that have infected the computer. You may have to scan a couple times while in safe mode, but this procedure has worked wonders for me in the past.
Thanks for your time, I hope it helps! :D
