Rain!

We woke up this morning to the sound of rumbling thunder.  As Jeffrey was leaving for work he told me I needed to come see the clouds.  So I grabbed my camera.  They were pretty cool – storm clouds moving in.

I wish I could have caught some of the lightning that flashed through them, but I’m not that lucky.  I watched the clouds for a bit, until I started getting wet and then retreated inside the house.  Since then we’ve had, not continual rain, but periodic downpours.  The yard and the garden can definitely use it, but I catch myself wondering if I really want to go out today.  Not that I think I’ll melt if I get wet, but it’s more the kind of day for curling up with a good book.

I just copied pictures from my camera to my computer and found pictures of the sky I had forgotten I took.  There wasn’t much else – just pictures of the sky and pictures of clouds.  I wonder if that means I have a problem?

I usually post my Looking at the Sky post on Thursday evenings, but I just ran out of time last night.  Our local high school is performing their Fall musical, Cinderella, this weekend, and Jeffrey is helping out with the sound again – even though our son is no longer a student and a star.  But they asked, and he said yes.  It’s just a shame for the students to put so much effort into the production and then have the audience not be able to hear them.

Ideally, the school would have their own sound equipment and someone to run it, but they don’t.  So Jeffrey helps out when he can.  So, last night we were at the school for the dress rehearsal night – performed in front of a small audience – and didn’t get home until almost 10pm.  And then my computer wouldn’t behave, so I had to restart and then it was time for bed – unless I wanted to stay up way past my bedtime and just rely on wrinkle eye cream to keep me looking good OK.

Anyway, it’s still Friday, so it’s not too late.  I had the picture picked out last night – just didn’t have the time to get it posted.

Something about today’s sky just said “Fall” – the blue sky, the clouds, the way the clouds moved, the light, something.

Gorgeous!  Every once in a while I thought we might get some rain, but it didn’t do much more than sprinkle once in the afternoon.  There was no need to pull out the rain boots or the rain jacket.  I just slipped my sandals on and went out to get some pics.

That was the day we had strong winds and, even though the nurses did their jobs really well, Jeffrey couldn’t have his surgery because the power was out.  I was expecting a gray, stormy sky that day, but instead we had some clouds, some blue sky, and those strong winds.  The winds on Wednesday (Windsday?) were even stronger, but thankfully the hospital had power, and Jeffrey’s surgery went as planned.

I was out looking at the clouds again this evening.  I was actually hoping for some clear skies, but the clouds were kind of pretty.

A huge mass of dark clouds rolled over our house this evening.  I went out to the driveway and watched them and took pictures, until some big fat raindrops started falling and chased me back inside.  I didn’t want to get my camera wet!

Right before I came in, some of the clouds were picking up some red highlights from the sunset behind me.  And look at the texture of those clouds!

It was definitely not a night to be out using the gas grill on the deck, but it was a very interesting night for cloud-watching.

We’re sitting in the basement right now, while thunderstorms keep rolling by.  We’ve been down here all evening.  Luckily they’ve passed us by, but several tornadoes have been sighted in the area tonight.  This Wisconsin weather has been strange this summer with all the tornadoes.  You don’t normally think of tornadoes when you think of Wisconsin.  And it’s not just tornadoes tonight, it’s flooding too, and a sinkhole that swallowed a car.  I bet the owner of that vehicle is going to look in the Robern Medicine cabinet to find something for that headache as soon as he gets home.  It just doesn’t stop!

Beth was upset because Tim was over at his boss’s house after work, and they saw two funnel clouds drop out of the clouds in the field next to the house.  Beth has always wanted to see a tornado, maybe be a storm chaser.  I wonder what she’d do if she really saw one.

Maybe tomorrow, because you know what they say about Wisconsin weather – if you don’t like it, just wait and it’ll change.  (or something like that)

Once again I was out on my deck taking pictures of gorgeous end-of-day clouds.

While I was out there, one of the neighbors started shooting off fireworks – either that or this tree just discovered a new shampoo for hair growth and things are popping out all over.

Last Wednesday evening – clouds + setting sun = one gorgeous sky.

Watching the sky is definitely more fun than setting up a health savings account!  Maybe not as useful, but definitely more fun.  I think I just might be addicted!

I really liked the clouds on Wednesday.  OK, so I like the clouds every day, but…

Those are really pretty, aren’t they?  I took the first pic from my back deck, looking across the neighborhood.  Then Jeffrey and I went out that evening to go see a movie.  We saw Date Night.  Before the movie we went to Home Depot, because we needed compost and mulch.  If I lived on a farm like my brother, we could make our own compost, but we don’t, so we bought some.  I need to get the garden going – now that all danger of frost has passed.

After we Jeffrey loaded the compost and mulch into the back of the van and went to take the cart back, I took a couple shots of the sky over the parking lot while I waited for him.

Then we went to the movie and to Dairy Queen afterwards for ice cream.  It’s fun to have a Date Night every once in a while!

I know I usually get my Looking at the Sky post up a lot earlier, but it is still Friday, right?  I’ve just been busy doing other things – posting something about the book I just finished (see last post), picking Cory up from school, running by the library to pick up a letter of recommendation (for Cory for scholarship applications), washing dishes, cooking…  I haven’t had time to look into Outer Banks vacation rentals or figure out which photo(s) I want to post this week.  Oh, who am I fooling?  No sense in looking into vacation rentals – who has time for a vacation, anyway?

Luckily, I can look at the sky wherever I am, and it’s just as gorgeous here as anywhere else in the world!!
