Book Review: Love Changes Everything
I just finished reading Love Changes Everything: Finding What's Real in a World Full of Fake by Micah Berteau. I was offered a free copy for review purposes, and the description had me intrigued. I had just heard a sermon about the story of Hosea and Gomer, and the timing seemed more than a coincidence, so I jumped at the chance.
This book promises to be life-changing. The author uses the example of Hosea and Gomer - where God tells the prophet to marry a prostitute, who later leaves him to run back to her old life, and instead of leaving it there, God expects Hosea to go and buy his own wife back - to show us exactly how much God loves us.
There were some good parts to this book and things to think about, but overall I just didn't connect with the author and what he was trying to get across. I didn't find any of it life-changing or earth-shattering, but overall it was a decent read with some good reminders. Perhaps for someone who has been struggling to understand the reality of God's love, it can be the book that changes everything...
Thanks to Revell (a division of Baker Publishing Group) for the copy. All opinions are my own.

Review: Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box
A few weeks ago, the nice ladies from Simply Earth contacted me and asked if I'd try out one of their recipe boxes. I wasn't sure exactly what that meant, so I checked out the website and learned it's a great way to try out essential oils. With the box you get 4 essential oils, other natural ingredients, and some fun extras. The idea intrigued me, so I said yes, I'd love to try them out!
I received my box last week - along with a Bonus Box full of extras like roller bottles, smaller oil bottles, and carrier oils to use with the essential oils. The whole thing was so much better than I imagined. The box held some lovely recipe cards with recipes for things like Natural Laundry Detergent, Foaming Hand Soap, and a Laundry Stain Remover - as well as a Diffuser Blend to try. I've got that going in my diffuser right now, and my house smells so good! I am especially loving the nutmeg in there.
All of the recipes use the essential oils included in the box, and they sent along some additional ingredients needed for the recipes. Some of the recipes call for things you probably have around your house, like white vinegar, Borax, and distilled water, so those aren't included, but they did include a bottle of Castille soap which I did not have on hand. I used that to make the Laundry Stain Remover, and that went into a roller ball from the Bonus Box. They really make it easy to jump right in and start using the oils in your home. There's even a sheet of beautifully printed labels to apply to your finished products.
Besides the Laundry Stain Remover, I also made the Tea Tree and Lemon Surface Cleaner. Both recipes were very easy to follow and quick to mix together, and I love knowing I can clean my house with natural products. My 15-month-old granddaughter was visiting last week (along with her mom and brother), and she did a good job of smudging up my stainless steel refrigerator. I used the Surface Cleaner on that this afternoon, and it looks really good. It smells really nice when I spray it, too. The smell was a bit strong when I mixed it up, but I'm pretty sure it was because I put rubbing alcohol and the tea tree and lemon oils into the hot water. Note to self: next time wait for the water to cool a bit before adding those ingredients! Once it cooled, it was much better.
I need to get some washing soda before I can try the Natural Laundry Detergent recipe that came in my box, but I added a few drops of the BO Be Gone blend to my laundry today, and I love the smell. I used to make my own laundry detergent from basically the same ingredients as the Simply Earth recipe (minus the essential oil blend), but now I'm using a plant based detergent I bought online, so it's all good and natural. And smells so good!
Simply Earth offers a monthly subscription service for $39/month. You get all this every month - new oils, new themes, new recipes every month. Use my code - BCMOMTOOFREE - when you subscribe, and they'll include a $20 gift card in your first recipe box. You can use the $20 on a future purchase - you can buy single oils or accessories from Simply Earth too - or apply it toward your next box. Sounds great, right? I think you'll really love it. And everything comes with a guarantee, so if you don't love it, you can return it and find something you do love.
Be sure to use my link when you shop Simply Earth and use the code - BCMOMTOOFREE - when you subscribe to get the $20 gift to use on your very next box or order. I'll get a little something out of it as part of the Simply Earth #squad, and you'll get a fresh, natural house. 13% of company profits go toward ending human trafficking, so you can feel good about that too.

When Did Everybody Else Get So Old?
Jennifer Grant is a writer, editor, and speaker. A former health and family columnist for the Chicago Tribune, she is the author of four previous books, including the adoption memoir Love You More. She lives in the Chicago area with her husband, four children, and two rescue dogs. Find her online at jennifergrant.com or on Twitter @jennifercgrant.I received this one in exchange for a review, so I bumped it to the top of my ever-growing reading list.
This is a fairly quick read, and I saw glimpses of myself and my life in Jennifer Grant's. No, we're not all the same, but chances are if you're in that same time of life, you'll find glimpses of yourself in there too.
She takes us through the changes as our children grow up and get ready to move on into their own lives, starting college and moving out. After all that time of singular focus on the children, the questions emerge - What now? Who am I besides mom?
Jennifer shares her insights and the things she learned, simply by living it, not without a bit of humor thrown in, sometimes at her own expense. And, yes, she even talks about S-E-X.
I read some reviews from people who laughed out loud and cried when reading this book. I didn't experience any of that, but I did come away with a strong sense that everything is going to be OK as perhaps we're all old (and wise) enough to accept our lives and ourselves as we are. And maybe this next phase has plenty to offer, too.
Overall, a very enjoyable book, and I especially liked many of the quotes from books she had read and her special take on them. I plan to troll her Notes section for some additional reading. (like I really need any more books on my to-read list)
Thanks to Herald Press for the review copy of the book.

Soul2Soul Tour Review
Jeffrey and I had a date night on Saturday - dinner and a concert. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's Soul2Soul tour was in Indianapolis, and we thought it would be fun to see them. We've loved Tim & Faith for years and were really looking forward to this concert. It had to be good, right?
Two major entertainers, with multiple songs their fans would love to hear, touring together. They could easily fill up the whole evening and leave us wanting more.
This was our first clue that the concert might not be as good as we hoped...
I was seriously hoping that it was the opening act's sound guy and that the sound would improve when Tim & Faith took the stage. When the opening act was over, we watched while the stage was reset, and we waited for Tim & Faith - for the concert we came to see. The stage was gorgeous. Tim & Faith came up from underneath and began singing, and...
Sadly, there was absolutely no improvement to the sound. There was so much bass and reverb that absolutely nothing else could be heard. Oh, we could tell that Tim & Faith were singing, but we could barely hear them and could not understand any of the words. And because of the wall of sound, it wasn't just the vocals that couldn't be heard - the sound from the band just kind of blended into the noise, and we couldn't differentiate any of the instruments or music. I'm sure some of those songs were familiar, but who could really tell? It was like the sound guy thought he was putting on a hard rock concert and really had no clue what Tim & Faith's music actually sounds like. We've been to several concerts, and this was absolutely the worst sound ever.
There were quite a few very disappointed people who left early, and several comments about the sound on the Facebook event page - though I'm not sure anyone ever read those. They certainly weren't being read or monitored by anyone during the concert because the bad sound stayed bad.
The lights and visuals were awesome, but sadly not worth much if the music isn't there to go with them. I would have been happier listening to Tim & Faith with absolutely no extra splash - if only I could have HEARD them.
The light show was worth a little something, though I hate to think that Tim & Faith have put that much into their show (heart and soul) and do not realize that the sound is so bad that their fans cannot hear or understand anything they are saying or singing. Because I have to believe they don't know what the show sounds like from out in the audience. It's either that or they're trying to impersonate rock stars instead of being the genuine people I thought they were.
Overall, it was a VERY disappointing concert - a waste of money, and a waste of time. And definitely not up to par with their past tours.
So, what did you do this weekend? I hear Garth Brooks was in Champaign...
Two major entertainers, with multiple songs their fans would love to hear, touring together. They could easily fill up the whole evening and leave us wanting more.
McGraw has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and dominated the singles charts with a stunning 41 #1 singles. He is currently riding the Billboard Country Airplay chart with 3 singles in the top 20, a feat he was the first to achieve, and now the first to achieve for a second time. He is the most played country artist since his debut in 1992, with two singles spending over 10 weeks at #1 (“Live Like You Were Dying” and the genre-breaking “Over and Over”). His recent multi-week #1 single “Humble and Kind,” off his “Damn Country Music” album, is his 59th release to hit top 10 or better, and spawned a New York Times Best Seller book. - Soul2Soul TourWhy in the world would they need an opening act? I definitely wasn't expecting that, but some guy came on stage. I have no idea who he was or what any of the songs he did were, because the sound was horrible. HORRIBLE.

Stage/light show was awesome but sound was awful. Sad that we couldn't understand any words. Anxious to start hearing new songs on the radio so I can hear the words. Still love Tim and Faith but a big disappointment in the show in Indy last night.
The sound was horrible!! Left at 930 bc you could hardly make out what they were singing... and to think we drove 3 hours for a headache!
Sound is awful. Can't understand the words and can hardly even tell what songs are being played. Disappointing to say the least.
We left after Faith's set. It was exhausting trying to make sense of the sound. We came to hear Tim and Faith, not overpowering band and back up singers. I was so disappointed! The sound really was AWFUL. But we stayed until the end, maybe because we kept hoping it would get better, which it did not. Maybe we're just suckers for punishment, or maybe it's just that we'd paid good money for these concert tickets. We may have been in the cheap seats - though there really is no such thing as a cheap seat when Ticketmaster gets through charging all their fees - but we still expected a decent concert. (We saw Bon Jovi last month in seats on the same level but almost behind the stage, and while the view wasn't as good, the sound was MUCH better for that concert) This venue hosts numerous concerts, so I'm pretty sure that the sound is usually decent. It has to be, right? They couldn't regularly sell worthless tickets, right?
The lights and visuals were awesome, but sadly not worth much if the music isn't there to go with them. I would have been happier listening to Tim & Faith with absolutely no extra splash - if only I could have HEARD them.

McGraw and Hill have been dominating the music charts since the early ‘90s. They began touring together in 1996 on McGraw’s Spontaneous Combustion tour. In 2000 they created the Soul2Soul franchise with their record-breaking “Soul2Soul” tour, becoming that year’s top grossing and most successful U.S. tour. Their success continued in 2006-2007 when “Soul2Soul II” returned to the road, which was the most attended tour of the year in any musical genre and remains the highest grossing multi-year North American tour in country music history. Pollstar Magazine named it their “Major Tour of 2006,” beating out Madonna, The Rolling Stones and The Red Hot Chili Peppers for the honor. - Soul2Soul Tour

Book Review: Guardians by Josi Russell
Guardians is the 2nd book in the Caretaker Chronicles by Josi Russell, published by Future House Publishing. (#FutureHousePub)
As with the first book Caretaker, I had a hard time putting this one down. The book picks up 4 years after the ship reaches Minea, and the passengers have found out that things aren't exactly as they'd been led to believe before they left Earth. The city has been carefully planned, and their ship was never supposed to arrive. Because of this, most of the passengers are finding it hard to fit in and find a place for themselves on their new planet.
Because of his part in saving the passengers from slavery as they slept through the stars (as chronicles in Caretaker), Ethan Bryant (Caretaker) has been given a government position, and he and his family do what they can to help their fellow passengers. More often than not, they feel helpless to do anything of real value.
Even those colonists who were supposed to be there have found that things aren't as rosy as they'd expected. They find themselves deeply in debt and barely able to feed their own families. And then people start getting sick and the food supply begins to dry up. What is going on, and will someone figure it out before more people die? And what do the aliens who have suddenly appeared above the planet want?
As noted on the About the Author page at the end of the book - "Josi Russell's science fiction novels explore familiar human relationships in unfamiliar contexts." She definitely does a good job of that in this book. The book explores themes of family, friendship, love, and redemption a midst the darker human traits of greed, selfishness, and betrayal. All while the colonists face new challenges and new setbacks on their adopted planet. This book will definitely keep you reading until the very end. I enjoyed it very much.
You can grab your copy of Guardians on Amazon.
Disclosure: I received a copy of Guardians from Future House Publishing in exchange for review.

Get the New Josi Russell Book Guardians for 99¢ on Amazon
I was offered an opportunity to review a new book - that just happens to be available TODAY - called Guardians by Josi Russell. When I read the description, and that of the prequel Caretaker, I knew I just had to read these books.
Currently I'm 28% into Caretaker, and I'm having a hard time putting it down. Yes, I'm supposed to be reviewing the new book, but I obviously have to read the first one first. And the good news is that you can read both of them too. They're both only 99¢ on Amazon (Kindle version) right now through February 17, 2016. (If you don't have a Kindle, you can always read on your computer or other device using the free Kindle app. Or just click the banner at the top of this page and get your own Kindle Fire; the price is really good right now.)
To celebrate the launch of Guardians, Future House Publishing and Josi Russell are giving away both an autographed copy of Guardians and the audio book of Caretaker. You can enter here. I've already entered even though I have the Kindle versions of both books - because I love free stuff, and it is an autographed copy! And an audio book too.
Disclosure: I received a copy of Guardians from Future House Publishing in exchange for an honest review, so be sure to come back for that. In the meantime, go grab your copies of Guardians and Caretaker. You only have until the 17th before the price goes up again.

Review: The Dog That Saved Stewart Coolidge
I just finished reading The Dog That Saved Stewart Coolidge. I admit, I picked the book because the dog on the cover is quite cute, and the description sounded really interesting.
About the Book: (from Amazon)
He's written several other books, several of them featuring animals used by God. If you've read any of his other books and enjoyed them, I'm sure you'll like this one too, judging by the Amazon reviews. I'd give this 3 stars. I definitely didn't hate it, but it wasn't one of those books I'm going to be raving about or wanting to read again. (So many books, so little time, and I don't even have time to read the entire list of books I really really want to read again.)
I received The Dog That Saved Stewart Coolidge for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
About the Book: (from Amazon)
A light-hearted love story about a young couple brought together by a four-legged bandit. While this book was OK and a fairly quick and simple read, I don't feel that it lived up to its description. Things happened - the dog stole from the local grocery store (repeatedly) and Stewart took the dog in (instead of catching him and turning him over to the authorities), and then Stewart finally got to know the cute girl downstairs in the process. It all sounds good, but it really didn't feel believable or that Point A really led to Point B. The story just doesn't seem to carry itself, and I wasn't convinced. I'm not sure that really makes sense, so obviously Jim Kraus is a better writer than I am, but I just don't think his writing is for me.
When a stray dog helps himself to a bone from a display in the supermarket, he doesn't know his actions will brand him a criminal and spark a romance between two humans. Stewart Coolidge works as a bag boy at the store, and his outraged boss offers a reward and demands Stewart catch the thieving animal. He fails at that, but now he finally has the perfect excuse to talk to his cute neighbor, Lisa.
Lisa has always dreamed of being a journalist and asks Stewart if she can interview him for the local paper. As she gets to know Stewart, she likes him more and more, and she's delighted to learn he shares her Christian faith. Stewart can't bring himself to tell her she's mistaken, that he's not religious at all. And that's not Stewart's only deception. When the dog shows up on the doorstep of their building, Stewart decides to harbor the furry fugitive. But this is no ordinary dog, he has a divine sense of how things should be--and recognizing how much Stewart needs Lisa, he decides to do all he can to bring them together.

Magnetic Copper Bracelet from Earth Therapy
I've been wearing this Pure Copper Magnetic Bracelet pretty much all the time for a couple of months now. I've heard good things about the benefits of copper and magnets - being an Effective Natural, Non Invasive, Pain Relief Aid for Arthritis, RSI, Carpal Tunnel, Migraines, and Fatigue. This bracelet combines the two, being made from the Best Quality Solid Copper and including 6 Powerful Therapeutic Magnets, along with being sleek and stylish.
This bracelet is a medium Size (6.5") and adjusts to fit most sized wrists. I have quite small wrists, so I have to squeeze it together until the ends almost meet. It then fits securely with the magnets against my wrist, but it is loose enough to push up my arm when I'm trying to work. I usually only take it off when I go out in the sun, since it's been summer, so I don't have a copper-bracelet-sized line on my arm. And then I put it on again. So far it seems to be holding up really well with all the squeezing and loosening of putting it on and taking it off.
I can't say for certain what the benefits of wearing this bracelet have been, but I have had some pain in my right shoulder for a while now. I was trying to help Jeffrey carry parts of The Coolest Garden Ever, which he built in front of the house, and then they had to be carried to the back yard, and I ended up hurting my shoulder. Thankfully a very nice young man lives next door, and he helped Jeffrey carry the majority of the garden sides to the back yard. Anyway, my shoulder does still bother me occasionally, but I have noticed that it's usually on those evenings when I have taken the bracelet off and not yet put it back on. So, I'm going to believe that it's helping, and I would certainly rather use something natural like this than even think about pain killers or drugs or anything like that.
I noticed that several reviewers (on Amazon) mentioned that the magnets in their bracelets fell out after just a few days, but like I said, I've been wearing this for a couple months, and I haven't had any problem with the magnets. They're all right where they belong. The bracelet is starting to look a little scratched up, because I do wear it all the time. While I like the smooth look of this particular style, I think I'd go for one with a braided or designed look, like this Mens Heavyweight Pure Copper Magnetic Bracelet
The bracelet comes with the Magnetic Therapy eBook "Heal Your Pain Through Magnetic Therapy" by Dr Tulsi Dabhi along with a RISK FREE. 60 Day Earth Therapy Full Satisfaction Money Back Guarantee and a 1 Year Product Warranty. There are several other styles and sizes available. Be sure to scroll down to the Special Offers and Promotions section to see how you can save when you buy two or more Earth Therapy products.
Disclosure: I received a Magnetic Copper Bracelet from Earth Therapy in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Review: We Love Disney
Thanks to One2One Network (#O2O) I've been able to listen to the new #WeLoveDisney CD the last few days. The album features the hottest artists from across the pop, rock, R&B, and country worlds delivering their own unique interpretations of classic Disney songs.
These were all (mostly) songs I was familiar with, and I really liked hearing them re-imagined. I was not familiar with most of the artists featured on this album, but after listening to We Love Disney, I am ready to check some of them out and see what the rest of their music sounds like. I am really enjoying the vocals on this.
The album starts off with the suave, big band feel of Friend Like Me, which I absolutely loved. Check out the video on YouTube; I think you'll like it too. I looked up several of the original songs from the Disney movies on YouTube, just to compare them to the ones on this album - Friend Like Me, I Wanna Be Like You, and Everybody Wants to Be a Cat, to name a few. I feel like all the songs stay true to the originals while being something entirely updated and new at the same time.
I'm liking the Rascal Flatts and Lucy Hale version of Let It Go better than the original. Also, even though I usually consider It's a Small World one of the most annoying songs on the planet, probably because of having to ride the ride over and over and over with my children, I almost like it on this album. They did a very nice job.
The We Love Disney track list:
We Love Disney will be available October 30th and can be pre-ordered now on iTunes and Amazon.
For more information, visit the Official We Love Disney website.
I participated in the We Love Disney album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided an album to review but all opinions are my own.

Review: Harry Connick Jr. - That Would Be Me
I have enjoyed Harry Connick Jr's music for quite a while now, so I was very excited to see that he has a new CD coming out - tomorrow! October 23, 2015. I was even more excited when I was given the chance to listen to it early through One2One Network.
On That Would Be Me, Connick threw himself out of his comfort zone and into the studio with two ‘external’ producers, Eg White (Sam Smith, Adele, Florence And The Machine) and Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Pink, Weezer, Fall Out Boy). The album was recorded in London with White and Nashville with Walker, and the result is a carefully crafted record full of surprises and stirring musical conjurations, delivering 11 new songs and new insights into his artistry.
So far I've listened to That Would Be Me twice, and loved everything about it. That Would Be Me is a very upbeat and fun album, and I had a hard time sitting still through it. If I hadn't been on my computer listening... Body parts were definitely moving. Currently my favorite songs, if I had to pick some, are (I Think I) Love You A Little Bit and "the sultry/funky damn-near-‘70’s sounding" Songwriter. I'm also liking Right Where It Hurts.
Here are a couple snippets of the lyrics I really liked:
That Would Be Me is available everywhere October 23, 2015. You can grab your copy on iTunes or Amazon. You'll want to be listening to this one. For more information, be sure and visit the Official Harry Connick Jr. website and his facebook page.

Review: Andrea Bocelli's Cinema
Andrea Bocelli is the biggest selling living classical music artist. His albums have sold over 80 million copies! Andrea even recently sang for Pope Francis on his trip to the U.S.I'm not sure where I've been, but I have not been listening to any of Andrea Bocelli's music. Until now. Thanks to One2One Network, I have had a chance to listen to his new album Cinema. The album, Bocelli's first new studio recording in two years, will be released on October 23 by Verve Records. It includes a collection of interpretations of songs from classic movies like West Side Story, The Godfather and Gladiator.
Bocelli said the following:
With the album Cinema, I’m fulfilling a wish that I’ve harboured for decades. I’ve never made a secret of my dream of bringing to life a recording project associated with soundtracks, as I truly believe that it’s an exceptional artistic treasure trove.True to his status as a truly international artist, Andrea has recorded songs in five different languages (Italian, French, Spanish, English and Sicilian) and has partnered with global superstar Ariana Grande on the heart wrenching duet E Piu Ti Penso from Once Upon A Time in America/ Malena and Nicole Scherzinger on the epic musical anthem Don’t Cry For Me Argentina from Evita.
It’s an area that has always fascinated me: the scores written for films are very free and potentially very creative. A vast grassland where the composer can roam as he pleases, whatever his inspiration, where he can experiment without having to submit to the norms of the classical song (based on the sequence requiring two strophes, one short instrumental passage, one strophe, one short instrumental passage), or to a theme that is necessarily the conventional one, relating to love.
If films are a “dream factory”, the music that supports them embraces these dreams and heightens all of the magic and emotional vitality. My invitation, my token is for these immortal “classics” to merge with the experiences, with the most precious memories, with the emotions of every listener, to become the inimitable soundtrack to their life.
Here is the entire track listing:
- Maria (From West Side Story)
- La chanson de Lara (From Dr. Zhivago)
- Moon River (From Breakfast At Tiffany's)
- E più ti penso (From Once Upon A Time In America/Malèna) duet with Ariana Grande
- Be My Love (From The Toast Of New Orleans)
- The Music Of The Night (From The Phantom Of The Opera)
- Brucia la terra (From The Godfather)
- Por Una Cabeza (From Scent Of A Woman)
- No Llores Por Mi Argentina (From Evita) duet with Nicole Scherzinger
- L'amore è una cosa meravigliosa (From Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing)
- Mi mancherai (From Il Postino/The Postman)
- Cheek To Cheek (From Top Hat) duet with Veronica Berti
- Sorridi amore vai (From Life Is Beautiful/La vita è bella)
- Historia De Amor (From Love Story)
- Ol' Man River (From Showboat)
- Nelle tue mani (Now We Are Free) (From Gladiator)
Grab your own copy of Andrea Bocelli's Cinema now. It's available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon right now. Also be sure to look for Andrea Bocelli: Cinema, which will make its initial airing as the final presentation of PBS’ Fall Arts Festival, and is set to air nationwide across hundreds of PBS stations on November 27. The concert event will be personally arranged for Bocelli’s extraordinary voice by musical director, David Foster. I'm marking my calendar now!
Now let me get back to listening to Cinema by Andrea Bocelli. After which, I will probably check out some more of his music on YouTube.

Review: VENUS by Joy Williams
You may know Joy Williams as one half of the four-time Grammy-winning folk-rock duo The Civil Wars. That duo broke up in August of last year, and Joy Williams is set to release her solo album VENUS on June 30th.
VENUS tells an honest, human story of one woman’s journey out of darkness. I haven't quite caught all the lyrics, and the one time I checked out the Official Joy Williams website, they were not available. Even so, I have found quite a few that really grabbed me - "...gather up my fears and throw them in the fire." "standing in the ache until the levee in my heart breaks."
The breakthrough for Joy in writing the songs for this album came when Matt Morris (co-writer and co-producer on this album) said to her, “You are so afraid to say anything wrong that you are risking not saying anything at all. You’ve got to be brave. If you’re feeling mad as hell, then we’re going to write a mad-as-hell song. If you’re feeling broken beyond measure, we’re going to write a broken-beyond-measure song.” And so she did. Joy actually wrote over 75 songs for this album, though only 11 of them made the actual album. (I wonder will we see some of these in the future?)
I have enjoyed Joy's journey, as she starts with miles to go before she sleeps and finally ends up home. Along the way she faces pain, heartache, and the impossibility of perfection. She learns that it's OK not to be perfect, gives herself permission to feel all the things, and embraces the fact that it means so many things to be a woman. It's a very personal album that Joy hopes people will find their own stories in, too.
The whole emphasis of my new album VENUS is I’m discovering what it means to be a woman. It’s not necessarily the things I was taught. It’s the things I’m learning on my own. The good, the bad and the ugly is all in there. To be strong and to be weak, and to be scared and to be bold, and to be angry and to forgive, and to be broken and to break open, and break through, and to be hurt and to do the hard work to heal. That’s the type of woman I want to be.It took a lot of courage to expose herself to all of us in such a way - and so beautifully. I love the haunting quality of her voice in some of the songs and the different emotions that the music brings forth. Overall, a lovely journey that I will be repeating.
Though I found something to like in all the tracks, I especially liked the upbeat, almost tribal feel of this song, Woman (Oh Mama):
Venus is available June 30. Get your copy on Amazon or iTunes. I think you're gonna love it.

Review: Running Armband for Samsung Galaxy S5 #galaxys5armband
I've been wanting to try one of these armbands for a while now, so when I got the chance to receive one for review, I jumped at it. I walk every morning, and my phone can and will keep track of my steps. However, it's a bit awkward having to carry my phone the whole time or trying to put it into my pocket. It's just a bit too big. Enter this handy armband!
The phone fits snugly and securely into the armband. The neoprene folds right over the top so there's no chance the phone can come out. I'll admit that I didn't notice that the first time I used this, and I strapped the armband on upside down, which could have been disastrous. But, it held tight and my phone was fine. Now I know to tuck it all the way in, and it's definitely safe. The only thing I really don't like about it is that I have to take the case off the phone for it to fit into the armband. I realize there are many types and sizes of phone cases, so there's no way they could design the armband to handle all the cases. That really is a minor thing, though.
I like that the touchscreen of the phone is still usable through the armband cover. The armband straps onto my arm so I can take my walk without worrying about the phone again. It is taking me a bit to get it strapped onto my arm, but I will get it with time. It's just a bit awkward trying to get it on using one hand, but that's probably just me. It's really comfortable once I get it on, and I'm just enjoying being able to take my phone with me when I go for my daily walks. Now I'm wondering how my phone will work for audiobooks. Maybe I can start leaving my mp3 player home and just take my phone?
Here's a bit more information (and a link to it on Amazon) about the Best Running Armband for Samsung Galaxy S5 (as well as the S4, S3, iPhone 6 (4.7), HTC One & More):

Review: Madonna's #RebelHeart
Madonna recently told Billboard that this new album explores two very distinct sides of her personality, the rebellious renegade side and the romantic side. Of course, I didn't read that before I listened to the album, so had to go back and listen again to see if I could figure out which songs and lyrics reflect which sides of her personality. (Yes, I know, tough, but someone's gotta do it!)
I find myself liking Madonna's softer side best, though it's hard to resist that Unapologetic Bitch side. Madonna is who she is, and she's not afraid to tell the world.
The songs I like best are Body Shop,Wash All Over Me, and Best Night, but overall I am enjoying the whole album. I really like Madonna's voice, and the music on a lot of these tracks make it really hard to sit still. So why try? All the lyrics may not be entirely appropriate, and I may not really understand what Madonna is trying to say, but I'm still liking the listening.
"I'm in Heartbreak City, and it's not that pretty"
You can download Rebel Heart on iTunes, and be sure to check out Madonna on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

Review: Buddha Teas
I'm a coffee person in the mornings, but if I want something later in the day, I love a nice comforting cup of tea. I was recently drinking some tea when I opened an email asking me if I'd like to check out Buddha Teas and give them a try. I'd never heard of them before - perhaps you haven't either - but I checked out their web page and replied that I was very happy to try them.
Buddha Teas come in many different varieties and all are 100% unaltered, organic teas made from the freshest herbs, carefully packaged in bleach free tea bags. They really understand the importance of purity so that the true flavor of the tea comes through and that a cup of tea doesn’t contain any harmful additives or toxins. As I was reading through all the benefits each of the types of tea can have - detoxification, energy, brain function, immune support, digestive support, to name a few - it really hit me how important it is to have the purest herbs without any added toxins. For some reason I had never given much thought to the tea I drink beyond choosing a flavor that sounded good. (Maybe I should go read the labels on all my tea boxes?) Seriously, if I'm going to be drinking herbal tea, shouldn't I want all of the positive benefits I can get without adding anything that would counteract that?
From popular green teas to obscure bark and seed teas, Buddha Teas is sure to have something for everyone. They have many unique teas that you won’t find offered anywhere else. Some of them I'd heard of, but there were many I hadn't. It was interesting reading through all the descriptions and trying to choose some teas to try. Maybe I should have started with their list of Popular Teas to help narrow it down, but I didn't. (I did end up ordering one of the teas on the page anyway)
I decided to try as many different types of teas as I could - Leaf Tea, Root Tea, Flower Tea, Bark Tea, Berry Tea - and I ordered a couple of the Specialty Blends, too. I have been enjoying all of them, but I think my favorite is the Zenergy Blend. It's a nice pick-me-up in the middle of the afternoon. The single herb teas are all good, and I find them very mild and enjoyable, too. Most of the time I add a bit of honey and a squeeze of lemon.
The only thing I don't really like about these teas is that, once you get them out of the box, you can't tell them apart. Each tea bag is individually wrapped, which is nice - but nowhere does it say what kind of tea is inside the wrapper. The tag on the teabag itself isn't labeled either. I didn't notice this until I pulled a few teabags - from a couple different boxes - to take with me on a trip. I got ready to pack them and then looked at them and realized there was no way to tell which tea was which. So, when you get these teas, you'll want to keep them in their own boxes - or forever be (pleasantly) surprised when you brew your tea. The boxes really are kinda cute, and made from recycled materials. I have a nice stack of them on my kitchen counter.
If you're looking for high quality organic teas, be sure to check out Buddha Teas.

Review: Evening Prayers for Every Day of the Year
When I agreed to review this book, I did not realize that it was a collection of prayers spoken and written by Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, a pastor who lived from 1842 to 1919. This is not a new book. I just read the book description and thought it sounded like a great book to have.
Book Description:
Since that time, Bumhardt's collection of prayers has been published multiple times, including this newly revised 2014 edition. Obviously I haven't read through the whole book - there is a scripture and prayer for each day of the year, so I've just started going through it. I started at the beginning instead of on the proper date (yeah, I know - what a rebel), but I plan to start over again and go through it in 2015, since January will soon be here.
What surprised me was how simple, powerful, and timely these prayers are. They were written 100 years ago! But, of course, God's word is timeless and timely, too. I love the simple faith displayed in these prayers, and I find myself praying some of the lines over and over. They just hit directly at the center of what I would have prayed if only I'd thought of it. I also love that Blumhardt doesn't use a lot of flowery language in his prayers - just honest, heartfelt, simple words that mean so much.
This book was provided for review by Handlebar and Plough Publishing.
Book Description:
We want to turn to God at the end of each day, but often don’t find the words to express our deepest feelings and longing. This collection of prayers is one of the few daily devotionals especially intended for use in the evening. It was only after I'd received the book and started reading the introduction that I learned that these prayers were collected and published in 1926, after Blumhardt's death, and only intended at first for his closest friends.
Blumhardt’s words bespeak a certainty in God’s nearness. The peace that flows from them comes from an unshakeable conviction that God’s kingdom is indeed on the way. In stormy and challenging times like our own, most of us need this reassurance frequently, if not daily.

"All we ask and long for, all our concerns down to the very smallest, we lay in your hands in the one great request that your name be glorified on earth as it is in heaven."This is a book that I plan to turn to and use often, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a little guidance in connecting with God in a simple, direct, and meaningful way at the end of the day.

Review: Mary J. Blige #TheLondonSessions
#O2O (One to One Network) has once again given me the opportunity to review a new CD by an artist that I was not previously familiar with. I mean, I've heard of Mary J. Blige, but I honestly have never listened to any of her music. I must be alone in that because she's had a stellar career:
Wow! Why have I never listened to her before? I have no idea but, judging by this CD (and all those awards), she is really good. I have really enjoyed the strength and style of her voice as well as the music. Some of the songs are really heart-felt, honest, and intense, while others just make you want to get up and dance. The only thing I did not like is that there is some talk between some of the tracks, explaining some of the thought process behind the songs and the experience of recording. While I liked having that information there, it was so much quieter than the actual songs, meaning I had to turn the volume way up to hear, and then when the music started again it was so loud. Other than that, I really like this CD. It's hard to pick a favorite, because each of the tracks has something to offer, but for now I'm really liking When You're Gone and the great dance beat of My Loving.
The London Sessions is available now, and you can download it from Amazon or iTunes. Also available at Target, Walmart, etc.
Watch more Mary J. Blige videos on YouTube.

With eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards (plus a staggering 31 nominations), a 2012 Golden Globe nomination, and four American Music Awards, Mary J Blige is a global superstar. And in ensuing years, the singer/songwriter has attracted an intensely loyal fan base – responsible for propelling worldwide sales of more than 50 million albums.Capitol Music Group Chairman Steve Barnett calls Mary J. Blige's music "a one-of-a-kind blend of hip-hop and soul that has excited fans for more than 20 years" and made her one of the most successful and acclaimed artists in any genre of music. For this album, Mary J. Blige ventured into new musical territory by crossing the Atlantic to collaborate with some of this decade’s most celebrated UK musical talent – including Disclosure, Eg White, Emile Sandé, Jimmy Napes, Naughty Boy, SAM ROMANS and Sam Smith.

Review: Neil Diamond's New CD #MelodyRoad #O2O
I love me some Neil Diamond!! And I am LOVING this new CD Melody Road. That voice, that music, those lyrics - that voice. There is just something about Neil. I've been listening to Neil since I was a teenager. His music has been the soundtrack to many a cross country road trip with songs like "Let the Little Boy Sing" and "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" to name a few.
Obviously I'm not the only Neil Diamond fan out there:
I have been looking forward to this CD, ever since I heard that Neil Diamond was releasing a new one - his first in 6 years. I've been listening to it the last couple days, and I am not disappointed at all. I am enjoying it very much. I wish I could write a great review like this one on Amazon, but I'm not really musical or able to understand what makes a song or an entire CD good. What I do know is what I like, and I like this! Do yourself a favor and grab your copy. Melody Road is available now through Amazon and iTunes. Through Saturday you can even save $2 and get it for $7.99 at Best Buy with this coupon. You musicians will want to grab that - even though the MP3 CD is also $7.99 on Amazon - because there will be a special 36-page lyric book with guitar chords included in the packaging of each album, or you can grab it at Target and get 2 bonus tracks.
Obviously I'm not the only Neil Diamond fan out there:
Throughout an illustrious and wide-ranging musical career, Neil Diamond has charted 37 Top 40 singles and 16 Top 10 albums in the U.S. His most recent original studio release, 2008’s Home Before Dark, debuted at #1 in the U.S. and the UK on the Billboard Top Albums chart.
A Grammy Award-winning artist, Diamond is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the highest honors bestowed upon songwriters. Diamond’s many other achievements include a Golden Globe Award, 13 Grammy nominations and 2009’s NARAS’s MusiCares Person of the Year award. In 2011, Diamond received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor for his lifetime of contributions to American culture.

Review: Bulletproof Picasso by Train
Thanks to One2One Network I have been listening to the new Train CD Bulletproof Picasso repeatedly for the last couple days. I am seriously loving this CD - from the very first "Hey Baby" to the last "Don't Grow Up So Fast." This CD has me up and moving like the adorable little girl in this lyric video for the first track Cadillac, Cadillac. I don't think it's possible to listen to this and sit still. Seriously - I dare you to try!
This is Train's 7th studio album but the first one I've really listened to all the way through. Sure, I'm familiar with their hits Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me), Calling All Angels, and Hey Soul Sister. I mean, who isn't? I've just never bought an album. Obviously, I'm alone in that because Train has sold more than ten million albums worldwide, thirty million tracks worldwide, with numerous platinum/gold citations on their mantle, 3 Grammy Awards, 2 Billboard Music Awards and dozens of other honors and nominations.

Love is not supposed to stop. If you forget, I will remember.Yeah, they're pretty good, and I know you are going to love this album, too. From the haunting Angel In Blue Jeans to the feel-good, catchy I Wonder What You're Doing For The Rest Of Your Life, this album has a little of everything. Good music, lyrics that really make you think, and a whole lot of fun. Of the 12 tracks on this album, I haven't found one I don't like. In fact, I think I like them better every time I listen.
This is what happens when you burn a bridge; you jump into the fire or you learn to swim.Bulletproof Picasso releases on September 16th, but you can pre-order it for $7.99 right now on iTunes and Amazon and get an instant download of the first single Angel in Blue Jeans and four other songs. For more information about Train and Bulletproof Picasso, visit the Official Train web page. If you scroll down a bit, you can listen to several of the tracks from the new album right now, including I Wonder What You're Doing For The Rest Of Your Life. I really like that one!
Dishes in the kitchen sink like dreams that never fade.Right now I really need to get this posted so I can figure out which channel QVC is, because Train is going to perform LIVE for an hour, starting at 5pm ET, as well as offering a special deal on the album (and some wine) - and I want to watch!

Review: David Gray Mutineers
I received a free download of the new David Gray CD Mutineers to review from One2One Network. All opinions are mine.
David Gray is best known for his hit Babylon from the album White Ladders, which I had to look up on YouTube because I hadn't heard it. I really don't think I've heard any of David Gray's music before. That's OK, though, because I always love discovering new music and artists, and this album is a bit different from David Gray's previous albums. Mutineers "finds Gray steering into unfamiliar territory while cultivating a pugnacious but respectful relationship with his own history." The album stretched David's creative boundaries as he strove to create music that he had never made before.
I've now listened to the entire CD several times, and I am really enjoying it. Here's the official video for Back in the World, the first track on the CD. I really like this song. I'm not sure I understand the "naked as a tree" thing, but the song is really catchy.
Mutineers track listing:
Mutineers is singer/songwriter David Gray's tenth studio album, his first in four years, and it will be released in the U.S. on June 17. You can pre-order your copy here:
OR, buy tickets to see David Gray in person, and get a free download of the CD on June 17.
