Good boy, Weasley

When I came back from my walk this morning, as I was turning some lights on in the family room, I noticed that Weasley was purring and trying to get my attention.  He does that sometimes when he thinks I'm going to go sit down so he can rush and sit on my lap.  He's so neglected!  But when I get back from walking, he knows it will be a while before I sit down.  So it wasn't that.

Then I glanced down.  And had to look again.

No, that wasn't a toy mouse. Weasley caught and killed a mouse, and he wanted to be sure I knew about it.

That is the first I knew about any mice in the house.  I'm re-reading the post I shared recently about getting rid of unwanted pests, and we haven't noticed any signs.  So we don't know where the little guy came from, how long he was here, or if there are any more.  But at least now we know Weasley can catch and kill a mouse - or at least play with it to death.

After he'd shown it to me - and I made sure to let him know what a good boy he was - he again started playing with it, tossing it around and chasing it, purring all the while.  So I gave him some cat treats, bagged it up, and took it outside to the trash toter before he could lose it under some furniture somewhere like he does with most of his toys.

Good boy, Weasley.

But They're My Kitties

I think my cats have deserted me.  They've decided they like this guy better.

OK, maybe that's not exactly true.  But now they're both just as likely to want to sit on his lap as they are to sit on mine or to snuggle up next to me.  Once in a while he even has both of them at once - and since Tillie wants nothing to do with Weasley, that's really saying something.  The first time they did this, I grabbed my camera to get a picture.  As soon as Weasley saw the camera, he left.  I guess he thinks I'm the paparazzi.  This time I just used my phone, and he didn't seem to mind.

Last night Weasley even expected Jeffrey to take him to bed.  That's supposed to be my job!  Every night when it's time for bed and I start moving that way, Weasley will run out into the middle of the living room floor and stretch out, expecting to be picked up and carried to bed.  Lazy little munchkin can't walk!  If I ignore him, he'll grab at my legs or run quickly to get in front of me and lay down right in my path.  So, yes, I pick him up and throw him over my shoulder and carry him to bed.  He's just a bit spoiled.

Well, last night Jeffrey was headed to bed before me, and Weasley ran out into the middle of the room and stretched out waiting to be carried to bed.  So Jeffrey picked him up, but he didn't throw him over his shoulder - so Weasley started complaining and wanting down.  Jeffrey put him down, figuring that he didn't really want to be carried to bed, but Weasley wouldn't let him go anywhere.  He kept after his legs complaining all the while.  So Jeffrey picked him up again and tossed him over his shoulder - and Weasley stopped complaining.  And let Jeffrey carry him to bed where he was waiting for me when I got there.  I guess I've been replaced - but at least he expects to be carried to bed the right way, regardless of who carries him.  I really wish I'd gotten the whole thing on video because it was hilarious, but I didn't think of it until later.  I was too busy laughing.

Oh, and Tillie?  She sleeps on the bed with us now, at least for part of the night.  She's usually on the bed when Jeffrey gets there, and she is not going to go anywhere.  She's just a bit stubborn.  And no matter how much Jeffrey might complain about having no room on the bed because of the cats, he manages to get into the bed without disturbing her too much.  I bet he climbs in on my side just so he won't disturb her.  But I haven't asked him.

Looks like they're Jeffrey's kitties now - or he's theirs.

My Buddy is Back

Weasley didn't adjust very well to having Beth's cats living here.  He was beginning to be more comfortable and even to assert himself toward the end there, but he just wasn't the same cat.  Tillie was the one that surprised me, because she didn't seem to mind having the extra guys around at all - and she's the one I thought would have problems, because she's always so timid.

It didn't take Weasley long after the other two cats moved out, however, to get back to being his old self.  He's my snuggly boy again.  He comes and sits on my lap or next to me on the couch while I'm on the computer, like now.  He comes to bed and snuggles up.  Sometimes he just curls up next to my legs, but other times he wakes me up by purring in my face, and he won't leave me alone until I let him under the covers to snuggle up next to me.  During the day he usually follows me from room to room while I'm working on whatever it is I'm doing.  I rarely get a chance to go to the bathroom by myself.

He's such a little buddy cat.  He seems to think he always needs to be close, and watching him you'd think he's been neglected and never gets enough attention.  It's not like he couldn't have had attention when the other cats lived here!  I don't know why he was so weird while they were here, but it's kinda nice to have my little buddy back.  Except maybe when he's purring in my face when I'm trying to sleep...

The New Comforter

Here's our bed all made up with the new comforter. What do you think?

I'm really liking it - and not just because it was $40 instead of $90.  The weird thing is I was looking for something that had green or maroon in it, and this one doesn't have either.  It's more rust and gold with a bit of gray, and it's perfect in our room.  It goes really well with the pictures we have on the walls - autumn scenes with ducks.  It goes with the sheets we have on the bed.

And also, it goes really well with our cat Weasley:

Of course, that's the most important part, right?

Camera Critters (#156)

Camera Critters

This Camera Critters post celebrates two special occasions - The 3rd anniversary of Camera Critters (can you believe it's been 3 years?) and Weasley's 2nd birthday.

We don’t actually know when Weasley’s birthday is, but since he’s named after Fred Weasley of Harry Potter fame, Cory has decided that his birthday is April 1st.  It’s as good a day as any, right?

That means our Weasley boy turned 2 on Friday.  He didn’t get a cake or anything special.  We just told him it was his birthday.

He is a handsome boy, isn’t he?

I haven’t posted a Camera Critters in ages.  I really don’t know what my excuse is.  I have adorable critters right here in my house.

Yeah

Sometimes I sit down, and can't think of one single thing to say - like now.  Weasley doesn't care.  He just wants me to sit down so he can snuggle up.  He'd rather I not say anything about blackhead removal tools or anything else - because the typing bothers him.

He complains and pushes against my arm, and I tell him he doesn't have to be right here next to me.  Or else I just type with my other hand.

It takes a lot longer to type a blog post with just one hand than it does when I can have both hands on the keyboard.

Camera Critters (#141)

I took a few pictures of my favorite handsome kitty boy, Weasley.

He doesn’t look like he was particularly thrilled to have the camera pointed at him, does he?

He's in Trouble!

I woke up this morning to find dirt all over the living room floor.  That little brat Weasley got into one of my plants last night.  He dug it right out of the pot, and I found it across the room.  If cats could hire Federal Criminal Lawyers, I would have suggested he get right on the phone and call his lawyer! But they can't, and he didn't - but he definitely knew he was in trouble.

This isn't the first time he's messed with that same plant.  So I really should have thought about it, but I didn't.  Everything is messed up because of the painting.  Furniture is moved out from the walls, and all the plants got moved off the shelf and onto the floor - where they were just begging to be messed with.  And, for some reason, Weasley has it out for this particular plant.  I used to keep it on the end table, but he kept knocking it off and digging it up.  I don't know how many times I cleaned dirt off the floor and re-potted the poor thing.  Finally I gave up and set it outside to keep it away from him.  And then the tornado came through...

The pot got knocked over, and all the dirt spilled, and I thought that poor plant was a goner.  But I wasn't ready to completely toss it out, so I just plunked it into a pot of dirt.  Several weeks later, I realized that it still had green in the middle.  The stubborn little thing simply refused to die!  So, I left it outside all summer and then just recently re-potted it and brought it inside for the winter.  And, it was just fine, as long as it was on top of the shelf where Weasley didn't notice it.

But, he's so cute I can't stay mad at him.  I'm not gonna press charges.  This time.

Camera Critters (#134)

Weasley just loves watching the guys who are working on the house.

Me, I’m just anxious for it to be finished, because I know it’s going to look so good.  And Tillie?  She’ll be so happy when they’re finally finished because she hates all that noise.  As soon as they show up and start making any kind of noise, she disappears, and we don’t see her again until they’re long gone for the day.

Camera Critters (#132)

cameracritterspost
Weasley hasn’t been sure what to think about all the work going on around the house.  He really wants to see what’s going on, which was rather hard when the guys were on the roof.

He had a front-row seat to watch them send the shingles up onto the roof.

See, there he is at the bottom of the picture.  The noise of the big truck and the conveyor didn’t bother him at all.  He thought it was just good entertainment.

When they started thumping around on the roof, he kept looking at me with that wide-eyed look and then trying to see what was happening up there.  I didn’t think to take a picture of his little face, until yesterday when they started hammering on the walls.  It was pretty much like this:

“What is going on out there?”

Weasley likes to sit on the couch or chair and peer over the arm.  We think it’s kinda cute.

He’s just kinda cute.

Even when he looks at me with that “I can’t believe you’re pointing that thing at me again” look.

Camera Critters (#125)

cameracritterspost
I think Weasley would still like to be friends with Tillie, but she’s not ready for that.  She tolerates him.  He’s usually pretty good about giving her space.  Sometimes she chases him, but she doesn’t want him to chase her back, and I don’t think they’ll ever snuggle up together and take a nap.  Sometimes they get kind of close, though.

We Lost Weasley Tonight

Nobody tell, Cory, OK?  I'm sure he would kill us if he came home from the movies with his friends and found out we lost his cat.

Jeffrey and I were eating dinner on the deck this evening, when Jeffrey went in to get seconds.  When he opened the door, Weasley rushed out.  The little guy used to lay right in the doorway but make no move to get out no matter how many times we went in and out.  We just had to step over him.  Lately he's decided an open door is an open invitation to him - to go outside.  So he went out, and I didn't immediately grab him, so when Jeffrey came back out, Weasley dashed under the deck before he could grab him and make him go back in.  And then he wouldn't come out again - or he would come out, but as soon as we looked in his direction, he'd dash back under the deck so we couldn't make him go inside.

I figured he'd come out eventually and went in the house to wash the dishes, and Jeffrey went to talk to the neighbors or something.  I guess Weasley came out from under the deck, spotted a bird and chased after it,  and ended up a couple yards over.  So Jeffrey went after him and got him back into our yard - and back under the deck, where he holed up and wouldn't come out.

Jeffrey reinforced the lattice under the deck, trying to block all holes so there was only one way Weasley could get in or out, and then we  waited and tried to coax him out, all to no avail.  Finally, Jeffrey decided he didn't want to wait any more and started hosing the deck down to get Weasley to come out.  And come out he did!  He found a hole Jeffrey had missed and streaked out from under the deck and off to the neighbors' yard again.  It was almost completely dark by then, and we had no idea where he'd gone.  We went out with flashlights to look, but we couldn't find him.  He could have been anywhere.

So we came back home and hoped he'd come back on his own.  I was just hoping he wasn't too freaked out by the water and hadn't gone too far to find his way home and thinking that he may be a little brat, but I'd miss his little face and fuzzy self.  And he did, he made his way home and wanted back in.  It took a bit to coax him in, because he didn't want to let Jeffrey get anywhere near him, but he's home now - and he's not going out again any time soon.

There's Definitely Something Wrong with Me

I had to vacuum again today.  The little Weasley brat got into my plant.  Again.  There was dirt everywhere.  Again.  And I had to clean it all up.  Again.

And while I was vacuuming all that dirt up, Weasley was right there watching me.  And when I looked down at him, all I wanted to do is pick him up and squeeze him.  He was having none of that because I just got after him for messing with the plant, but seriously, what is wrong with me?  Does his cuteness really mean that he can get away with anything?   I'm pretty sure that if he takes up smoking Davidoff cigars that will be the last straw, because nobody is cute enough to get away with smoking anything in my house or anywhere near me.  But, other than that, Weasley seems to be able to get away with all kinds of stuff.

I mean, he gets in trouble, but it doesn't seem to phase him for long - and I just can't stay mad at him.

I Wasn't Planning to Vacuum Today

Jeffrey mowed the yard today and then said he was going to turn the dirt in the gardens over.  So I went out and pulled as many of the weeds as I could, to get them out before he worked up the dirt.  While I was pulling all those weeds it struck me as very unfair that we have to wait to plant the vegetables until the danger of frost has passed - but the weeds have no such restrictions.  They just grow and grow and grow.

Anyway, after a couple hours working on weeds and playing in the dirt, we decided we'd done enough.  So I came in, washed my hands, and got Jeffrey some water.  I took it to him out on the deck, where he was doing something else that I can't remember now, and turned around - and that's when I noticed dirt all over my living room floor.  Not only dirt but part of one of my plants.  The little brat cat who lives here had been playing in the dirt, too.  He'd dug up the plant and scattered dirt, not only in the middle of the floor, but all over and under the end table the plant was sitting on and under it and in my computer bag which was sitting next to it, and all over newspapers and magazines - and just everywhere.

So, even though I wasn't planning to vacuum today, I got to pull the vacuum cleaner out and vacuum dirt off of everything and out of everything.  As I was cleaning it up, I found even more dirt and realized Weasley had gotten into several other plants, too.

Oh, if the little brat wasn't so cute....

Camera Critters (#110)

cameracritterspost
When Beth moved out, she took the scratching post with her.  Since Weasley still has his claws and is used to having that scratching post, we thought we better get him one quick.  When Cory and I went to Walmart to find one, he found this Cat Condo on clearance for $9, so we thought we’d try it.  We put it in the same place as the scratching post had been, hoping he’d figure out this could be used for the same thing.
Cory put both the cats into it.

They weren’t too sure about it, and crawled right back out as soon as he let them. And then Weasley decided to climb back in – only he wanted the bottom hole, where Tillie had been.
Every once in a while, he climbs back in, but I still haven’t seen him scratch on it. We also bought him a carpet scratcher that hangs on a doorknob. It has catnip in it, and he loves that, so he’s done plenty of playing and clawing with that one.

Weasley looking out the window again, or actually the sliding door out to the deck.

Shortly after I took this, he curled up right there on the rug and took a nap.  He looks really interested here, but I guess the birds weren’t entertaining enough to keep him awake.
