Cory had his first Forensics meet today. There have been some other meets, but his partner Jenna couldn't go, so he didn't. I suppose it wouldn't have been bad for him to go anyway so he could watch and see what the other teams did, but I didn't think of that until now. I think he had a good time, even though he and Jenna didn't make it to the final round. I guess they had to perform their piece three times. Two of the judges liked them and gave them really good scores, but the other judge didn't, and that hurt them. Unfortunately the judge who didn't score them very well didn't give them any real reasons or constructive criticism that would help them improve. Still, I think they did pretty good considering it was their first meet, and I know they'll just get better.

If you're like me and think of forensics as something from CSI, or "the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions of interest to the legal system" then this link ought to help - What is Forensics? - because it's different than that. I couldn't find any information on our own school website, so I linked to another school in the state.

Overall, I think it's a good activity and pretty much perfect for Cory. It sure beats spending all day on the computer, watching movies, or playing playstation 3 (not that he has a playstation of any number, but we do have a Wii). He's thinking about finding a solo piece so he can compete at the meets whether Jenna can go or not. That's how much he liked it.

  1. "Comments on this blog are made do follow for the Google spiders." ? That doesn't quite scan....

Forensics is fun. I enjoyed it quite a lot, back when I was in school. Done well, it gives confidence and poise.
