Yahoo Domains

If you haven't yet gotten your own domain, you might want to check out yahoo domains. I don't know why I didn't think of them when I was ready to register my own. I already have yahoo email, and I've created some websites on their Geocities service. Yahoo domains and websites are hosted on the same servers as Yahoo.com, so they're very reliable.

New customers can even get domains for $1.99 for the first year, or if you choose Yahoo for your web hosting, the domain is free. You can use their domain availability tool to find out if the domain you want is available, and if you need additional help, they have 24-hour toll-free customer service.

  1. Yeah, the $1.99/first year thing is great, however... When it comes time to renew the domain, they charge you $34.99. Yes. I typed that correctly, $35 freakin' dollars. My wife didn't catch hers in time, and we got charged for a domain she forgot about, and probably won't use for the next year. Luckily I had transferred mine to my own host/registrar in time... You know how much they charged me for the transfer/renewal? $7.

Hate to say it, but Yahoo Domains is pretty risky if you don't keep up on the renewals and transfer them somewhere just before the end of the first year.
