Discount Dental Plans

Whenever I look at any of our doctor bills or dental bills, I notice the actual cost of the procedure, and I'm really happy I don't have to pay that. Then there's what they call the 'provider's discount' which means they mark down the cost because of our insurance. It's still more than I want to have to pay, and I'm glad we have insurance to cover most of that. What I often wonder is how people who don't have insurance can afford to pay those original pre-discount costs? I think it would be practically impossible.

Today I learned about discount dental plans that people can sign up for to get discounts off the high cost of dental care. I just put my zip code in and searched for plans in my area. Our dentist came up in the first plan I looked at. It offers savings of 15% to 50% off the cost of dental procedures. They even have a sample chart showing approximate costs and how much members can save. It would only take one or two visits to save the cost of the membership. Plan members simply present their membership card at the time of the dental visit and get the savings up front - no waiting for insurance payments.
