At least we thought so. We missed a few meetings. Don't ask me why, but a meeting on the first Monday of the month is easy to forget. One of those meetings I missed was at the end of the year, and the president and secretary came to me later and said they chose officers for the next school year, and they named me Treasurer. See what I get for missing a meeting?

Really I don't mind. I get to keep track of the money and write the checks. I've been recording everything in a spreadsheet, using Google Docs. That reminds me - I need to share that file with the rest of the officers. That's one of the things I like about using Google Docs - I can share my files or publish them so other people can see them, too. It's really convenient. Once I got the spreadsheet set up, recording everything hasn't been too much trouble. The part I have a hard time with is counting all the incoming checks and cash when I need to make a deposit, and keeping track of what comes from where. We have different fundraisers going on, and we need to keep track of what money is for what, so we know if we're coming out OK. Or something like that. Anyway, I end up counting and re-counting, adding and re-adding. Sometimes I just can't seem to come to the same total twice. It takes me way longer than I think it should to put together a deposit. I did manage to get one done today - and all my numbers came out right! Now I just need to update everything in my spreadsheet.

I was going to title this post "Why I'm Not an Accountant" - but really the spreadsheet part is the actual accountant part, and I can handle that.
