Not a Single Book

Did you hear this week about that study on reading? One in four adults say they didn't read a single book in the past year. I don't know why that surprises me. I live with a man who doesn't read. I still don't understand it. How can you not read? I'm a person who feels absolutely lost if I don't have a book going. My son is a big reader, like me. Actually, he's more of a reader than I am. He reads faster. He understands and remembers everything he reads. My daughter, on the other hand, hates to read. (her words, not mine) I catch myself wondering how that happened. She started out loving books and reading. When did she stop? Did she have trouble reading and understanding what she read? I don't know what happened. If it was trouble with reading, I wish I had noticed and thought to find her some Reading Tutors like at SCORE! Educational Centers. She needed someone to make reading fun for her, because it just isn't.

Mine daughter hates to read too unless it's a teen magazine.

  2. I have to say that I used to read a lot. At least four or five books a week. A lot, as I said. Then when the sprogs came along, I forgot how --- I read a few books a year now, and consider that a lucky number!
(except for books for the sprogs... now *those* I still manage to read in large quantities).

  4. I read a lot, and so does mr. kenju. I have 3 children. All three of them liked to read as children, but 1 of them quit reading anything except People magazines and 1 reads only law journals and the other reads pulp mysteries. BTW, all 3 are college grads. Where did I go wrong?

  5. Our kids are little book addicts, just like my wife. So thankfully they inherited the literary gene. I don't read as much as I'd like - likely because I'm a writer and I spend too much time at the keyboard.

But whatever free time I do have, I love to dig my nose into a book and escape from the world. It's so much richer than any other medium.

Saw your link on Michele's and thought I'd come on over and say hi.

  6. Just tell her that people who don't read books turn into me, works every time!

  8. I know this is a PPP, but it's a really good one!

I'm a reader, too. Always have been and as long as I can hold a book and see, I will continue to be.

Hubby wasn't much of a reader when we met. He'd scour his hobby magazines and how-to manuals.

One day I put a book I thought he might like on the back on my toilet. It worked! And is still working 6 years later. :)
