High School Relationships

Cory came home the other day and said that one his friends came up to him in the hallway and started yelling at him. She was mad at him because he isn't 'going out with' a girl who really likes him. However, she couldn't tell him who this girl is. I guess somehow he was just supposed to know?

He did find out later that it is this senior girl that he's good friends with. Apparently they have talked about 'going out' or liking each other, but they decided they didn't want to hurt their friendship. Now he knows she's telling her girlfriends, or at least this one friend, that she really, really likes him. Girls!

There is one girl, though I'm not sure which one it is, that he likes, but she just broke up with someone and she just wants to be friends. At least that's what she's telling him. I keep telling him that there's nothing wrong with being friends with a lot of girls, and he seems OK with that. He really is friends with a lot of girls. No matter where he goes it seems he's surrounded by girls. It's kind of cute to watch.

I'm glad he hasn't bought into that whole 'I must have a girlfriend' thing - or maybe it's different for boys. With the girls it seems like they define themselves by whether this boy or that one 'likes' them, and they're just not complete without a boyfriend - whether they actually like the boy or not.

  1. I am not looking forward to this stage of parenting. I remember how hard it was, and hate to think of my kids going through that.

  2. He's such a good-looking fella, I'm not surprised he's always surrounded by girls ;-)
