Diet Soda Causes Weight Gain

Did you hear about this on the news today? Apparently drinking diet soda actually causes weight gain rather than helping with weight loss. The normal logic on this is that people eat more because they figure they aren't getting any calories in the soda, but it seems there's more to it than that. Drinking the diet soda, or using any kind of artificial no-calorie sweetener, actually changes your metabolism, and your body doesn't know what to do with real sugar or calories.

I've always avoided diet soda since I started hearing all those horror stories about how the aspartame affects people - not that I ever drank much to begin with. I really don't like the stuff anyway. I especially don't want my kids drinking it because of those effects, and now there's another reason not to let them. I would hate for it to mess up their metabolisms now while they're young so that they have to spend their entire lives fighting to maintain a healthy weight. Of course, I don't like them drinking regular soda, either. They do drink it some, but not nearly as much as the typical American teenager. I'm a mean mom like that.

  3. I don't drink a lot of pop but when I do it's diet cola. I don't find it makes me put on weight but I have to be honest I am struggling with losing my weight this time around...I wonder if it could be the cola. I will cut it our completey to see what happens.

I don't let my children drink cola at all. They get mad at me but I guess I give in a birthday parties just to give them a treat.

The kids are back in school today after a snowday but sounds like they could be home again tomorrow due to the weather. See what morning brings. So today I am getting my blog hopping in while things are quiet.
