Do You Know Anyone Who is Moving?

I have a couple friends who are in the process of moving. I do not envy them in the least. Moving is one of those things I never want to have to do again. Besides the fact that I'm quite comfortable here, I think a lot of my aversion to moving is the fact that it seems like such a big job, and I have a hard time knowing where to start. I'm like that with most things. I get overwhelmed with the whole thing, and I need someone (usually my husband) to break it down into smaller, more manageable pieces.

Today I found this moving checklist that would be a big help for anyone who is moving. It lists things that need to be done when you are moving, like changing your address, measuring your new house to be sure things will fit, returning library books, and getting utilities turned off or transferred, as well as giving the approximate time frame when you should do all of these things. There's also a great Utility Transfer List you can print out and use to keep track of the utilities.

It's also a good idea to get a quote for your move from multiple moving companies. Having moved several times where we had to pack everything ourselves, rent a truck, get all our friends to help with the loading and unloading, and having moved once where we had a moving company come in and pack everything for us, load it and unload it, I have to say that hiring a moving company is a lot easier. Yes, it will cost more, but it's free to get the quotes, and you're under no obligation to use any of the moving companies. I think it's definitely worth checking to see if it's feasible.
