Heads or Tails - Direction

Today's theme is:

HEADS - Direction

I started thinking about this theme, trying to decide what to post this week.  My first thought was to talk about directions - as in, North, South, East, West.  My husband does not understand how I just have no idea which direction is which.  Is it a feeling?  What is it that lets some people know which direction is which?  If Jeffrey says to go East, I have to ask, "Do I turn right or left?"  To me, those are directions I understand.  Even if I somehow know that I am facing South - just go with me on this, because most of the time I won't even know that - I will still have a hard time figuring out which way is East.

At least I know the difference between my left and my right, because I've met some people who even get confused by that.  My kids came home from school with an easy way to tell your right from your left.  Make an L with your hands and hold them up like in the picture.  The one that forms the forward L (and not a backwards L) is your left hand.  L for left.  I'd never heard that before, but it works - you know, if you have trouble telling left from right, and people are always saying, "No, your other left!"

Now, follow these directions: visit the home of Heads or Tails to see more participants and join in on the fun.

  1. This reminded me of my wubby. She can't tell her left from her right either! I'm going to send her over to read this.

  3. I am there with you on this direction thing. The only way I can tell where is East that since I live in Chicago, I just use the lake as my guide.

  4. Hey that's a great way to teach kids which is left and which is right. I'm going to use that to teach Aidan. Thanks!

  5. What a cool way to tell right from left - I've never heard that before!

  6. I'm ALWAYS telling my husband "your OTHER left!" He always gets left and right mixed up, yet, he has a great sense of direction!

  7. That is a good way to learn left from right, as to not knowing where north or south is I am the same, not a clue. I loathe it when people give directions saying drive north two blocks and then turn west. I need actual road names and numbers with the occasional church or pub thrown in for directions

  8. That's how my wife learned, but I had never heard of it before she showed me. Now I'm trying to teach to the 1st kid, but she's a bit young yet to really understand what it means.
